Dear Kate,
How are you? What’s going on in Chicago? Is everybody OK? I miss you guys a lot.
I have so many things to tell you, so forgive me if I forget something.
First, let me tell you about the house. We bought a house in Brooklyn. It’s a two-story house with a great backyard. Kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom and our parents’ bedroom are on the first floor. Their bedroom is quite big and spacious.
Upstairs is a space just for the two of us. My room overlook a beautiful garden, but Filip wasn’t that lucky. His room overlooks the street and he complains all the time. We also have a small living room where we can hang out with our friends, although we don’t have that many yet. I guess we are still making our way in the Big Apple.
Mom is still looking for a job here, so she is mostly at home. She spends much more time with us, which is quite nice. Unfortunately, it won’t last forever. She wants to open her own office here.
Today is our first day at school and I really feel anxious, you know …. Starting all over, meeting new friends, fitting in …. Things are quite different here. We are students of junior high school and like you, I am in the 8th and Filip is in the 9th grade. It’s his final year and after that he will be in senior high school. Can you imagine?
It was really difficult to decide which school to enroll. Do you know that there are more than 1,700 public schools in New York with more than one million students? Our school is nearby, so we can walk to it. It takes about 15 minutes on foot. The school looks nice and its playground is really is really large. We even have a swimming pool!!! And, of course, there’s a library, gym lab, cafeteria…
Well, it’s time to go. I don’t want to be late on the first day of school. Keep your fingers crossed of me.
