India’s Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal, is considered to be one of the world’s most magnificent structures. It was built between about 1630 to 1650 and was commissioned by Shah Jahan as a memorial to his wife, who died in childbirth. It is located south of Delhi in Agra, where the rulers of the Mughal Empire (1526–1707) built their capital. Local and imported artisans were involved in the construction of this marble mausoleum, which is the finest surviving example of 17th-century Islamic architecture. The building is one of India’s major tourist attractions.
