Even an aerial view is not able to fully capture the immense size and labyrinthine layout of Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Cars speed along multi-levelled motorways, and modern high-rise buildings rise above the city’s avenues. Nevertheless donkey carts are still a common sight, and the back streets and alleyways are filled with mud-brick buildings.
